The Ripponlea Project

Ripponlea, Victoria 3185

One of our most celebrated renovations to date is The Ripponlea Project; a home that flawlessly blends old and new.

Designed by the team at Luke Fry Architecture and Interior Design, the brief for the Ripponlea Project was simple; to retain the striking period details of the front of the home while modernising the back, which we achieved through a complete knock down rebuild of the rear of the building.

Brick, concrete, natural stone and timber are the key materials used throughout the space, but any potential harshness is rounded by the artistry of the design, allowing natural light to flood the home through clever use of skylights and internal courtyards.

The open plan kitchen is both sophisticated and functional, featuring sleek design, custom cabinetry and a series of high-end features. Because of the limited space we had to work with - the site is merely 6.05m wide - the kitchen was designed to be compact and unfussy, while still showcasing multiple show-stealing elements. The kitchen opens out effortlessly to the dining and living areas, which are complemented by the bright backdrop of the courtyard. The living area is complete with a custom cement rendered daybed, perfect for whiling away cool Melbourne afternoons from the comfort of the indoors.

The bathroom also impresses, but it’s the unique fully-rendered bathtub that’s the fan favourite. The bath was constructed on site out of a timber frame, and sheeted in villaboard, ply and compressed cement sheet which was then rendered in a micro cement product. Ensuring the tub was not only striking but functional was essential, and it took time to make sure it was watertight.

The renovation took just over 11 months to complete, and we are thrilled not only with the high quality of the finish, but with the client’s pride in the final product.
